Everything You Need to Train for HYROX in Arona

Context

Arona, on the sun-drenched south coast of Tenerife, offers an ideal setting for HYROX athletes thanks to its year-round mild climate, varied terrain and strong outdoor culture. Between the beaches of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas and the slopes that rise toward Mount Teide, local runners and fitness enthusiasts enjoy coastal promenades, hilly roads and mountain trails that naturally build HYROX-ready endurance and strength. Arona’s identity is deeply tied to active tourism: visitors and residents flock here for water sports, hiking, cycling and running along the seafront, creating a community that understands structured training blocks and performance goals. The island’s volcanic geography adds an extra dimension, with altitude changes and wind conditions that help prepare athletes for the demands of repeated runs and functional stations. Spanish sporting passion is visible in the popularity of football, basketball and endurance events, and this competitive mindset translates well to the time-based, race-style format of HYROX. As part of the Canary Islands, Arona blends relaxed island living with a high-energy holiday atmosphere, making it a motivating base to train for major HYROX races across Spain and Europe while enjoying a distinctive Atlantic lifestyle between sessions.

Getting to Competitions

Arona does not yet host an official HYROX race, but it is well connected to major Spanish and European cities that do. From Tenerife South Airport, located around 20 minutes by car or bus from Arona, frequent direct flights reach Madrid and Barcelona in about 3 hours, both common hosts for HYROX competitions. From these hubs, athletes can also connect easily to other HYROX venues across Spain and to major cities in France, Germany, the United Kingdom or Portugal. Mainland races are reachable in a long weekend by combining a short transfer from Arona to the airport with a medium-haul flight. For European athletes, Arona works as a training base, with return flights via Tenerife South linking to many HYROX cities in roughly 3 to 4 hours, making it practical to travel to competitions while enjoying the Canary Islands’ training conditions the rest of the season.
