Locals and visitors alike use the beaches, trails and surrounding hills as their training ground, creating natural preparation for hybrid fitness races. While Byron Bay itself does not host an official HYROX event yet, the town’s identity as a road‑trip base and wellness destination makes it a natural feeder for larger city races along Australia’s east coast. The closest large city with regular HYROX competitions is Sydney, around 770 km south by road, typically an eight to nine hour drive. Direct flights from Ballina Byron Gateway Airport to Sydney take about 1 hour 20 minutes, with an additional one to two hours of ground transport to central race locations. Brisbane, roughly 165 km north and around two hours by car, also offers access to HYROX events when scheduled, with frequent shuttle and train connections from the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers. For athletes looking beyond Australia, international HYROX races in New Zealand are reachable via flights from Brisbane or Sydney to Auckland or other major hubs, usually in three to four hours of air travel plus local transfers.
